China Finance and Economics News, February 28th: Sanofi announced today that Mucosolvan, a German original cough medicine with a 45-year brand history, has returned to the Chinese market through e-commerce platforms such as Tmall Overseas Flagship Store earlier this year.
It is reported that, due to the impact of the exchange of Sanofi's animal health business and Boehringer Ingelheim's consumer health business, for a long period of time, Chinese families could only purchase MuShuTan through overseas purchasing or proxy purchasing.
Regarding the "sudden retreat" of Mu Shutan in the Chinese market, there are various opinions. Some believe that the underlying reason is that Mu Shutan contains harmful substances and has significant side effects, leading to its ban by the state. In response, Sanofi stated that after a business swap, Mu Shutan, now under Sanofi, has returned through cross-border e-commerce. This also serves as an official response to rumors about the product's discontinuation, prohibition, and withdrawal from the market following the adjustment of Mu Shutan’s operations in China.
According to the introduction, this return is accompanied by three star products, covering different versions and content options for children and adults, meeting the cough-relief and phlegm-removal needs of users across all age groups. These include the German version of children's oral solution (30mg/5ml); the Austrian version of children's oral solution (15mg/5ml), a low-concentration option suitable for infants aged 0-2 years; and the Austrian version of adult oral solution (30mg/5ml), with high content suitable for teenagers and adults aged 14 years and above.
