VahatiCor, a new medical device company in collaboration with T45 Labs based in California, recently announced that its A-Flux Reducer system has successfully treated the first patient for chest pain.
A-Flux Reducer System aims to become a new treatment option for "no-option" chest pain patients who believe other available interventional or surgical treatments offer no benefit. Interventional cardiologists percutaneously implant the self-expanding device into the patient's coronary arteries, where it increases blood flow in a way that delivers more oxygen to the heart and alleviates symptoms. According to VahatiCor, it is designed to "seamlessly conform" to any patient's anatomy and can be repositioned or retrieved as needed.
Interventional cardiologist Jean-Michel Paradis, MD, and Can Manh Nguyen, MD, from the Quebec Heart and Lung Institute, successfully performed the first implantation of this new device to treat angina patients from Canada. For patients with advanced large coronary artery disease, we have many interventional or surgical revascularization options; however, a significant number of people still suffer from angina. The A-Flux Reducer can help fill this therapeutic gap. It is an honor to perform the first human implantation, and the patient is doing well.
Nguyen stated, "The A-Flux Reducer system is a promising intervention with the potential to provide a predictable and low-risk treatment for the growing number of patients with angina symptoms who do not respond well to medication and lifestyle changes. We are encouraged by the positive early clinical experience with A-Flux and are rapidly advancing a larger-scale study to support the device in reaching more patients."
