Recently, BD announced that Dave Hickey, President of its Life Sciences segment, plans to retire on July 1. However, BD has not yet announced Hickey's successor but intends to find the next successor before this executive retires.

Dave Hickey
Hiji joined BD in 2014 as the General Manager of Microbiology and was promoted to President of Diagnostic Systems two years later. After another promotion in 2019, Hiji assumed his current position at the company in 2021.
He currently oversees BD's Biosciences and Integrated Diagnostic Solutions units, which sell products such as flow cytometers and equipment for sample collection, transportation, and testing. In BD's fiscal year 2023, the life sciences segment contracted by nearly 8% as the diagnostics unit reported a sales decline of over 13%.
The department's sales declined again in the first quarter of BD's fiscal year 2024, decreasing by 1% on a reported basis, as growth in the microbiology platform and molecular in vitro diagnostics reagents failed to offset revenue declines in other parts of the department.
BD CFO Christopher Deloreyphis said in an early February earnings call with investors, "China and respiratory are the main drivers of Q1 revenue growth, below our full-year target." "The respiratory season alone impacted the company's overall growth by approximately 150 basis points."
BD has not yet disclosed who will take over the leadership of the Life Sciences segment following Hickey's retirement. In previous instances, the company promoted from within; Patrick Kaltenbach was appointed as Chief Technology Officer to succeed the retiring John DeFord, while Hickey was promoted to President. In 2021, BD hired Brooke Story to succeed Hickey as President of Integrated Diagnostic Solutions, but last year she was reassigned as President of the Surgery business.

Recent Personnel Changes at BD

On November 21, BD announced the appointment of Ronald Silverman, M.D., as Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, effective December 4, 2023. Dr. Silverman will be responsible for leading the company's medical affairs organization, including end-to-end medical affairs across BD business units, regions, and central teams.
Dr. Silverman replaces Dr. William Sigmund, who has served as BD's Chief Medical Officer since January 2018, and announced his intention to retire from the company in June 2023. Dr. Silverman resigned from 3M Healthcare to join BD. Since 2021, he has served as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of 3M Healthcare, leading medical and clinical affairs teams across multiple business units, including 3M–KCI, followed by Acelity, and then 3M Health Care Solutions. Prior to that, he was the Director of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center and held academic positions at the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
