News on February 19, 2024: Medtronic is setting its sights on India, planning to research, develop, and manufacture surgical robots to address the accessibility of advanced medical technologies locally, reduce reliance on imported medical devices, and contribute to India's self-reliance in healthcare technology.
This time, Medtronic is focusing on the growth of surgical robots in India, not only making India a research and development center but also a potential base for manufacturing and product localization, especially in the field of surgical robotics. Medtronic CEO Geoff Martha emphasized,The company will focus on advanced surgical robotics technology and prepare for localized production.。

Medtronic's decision comes at a critical moment. The company's emphasis on advancements in surgical robotics aligns with its broader strategy to maintain leadership in the high-tech medical device sector while addressing the specific needs of the Indian market. Martha noted that this move is not only aimed at business growth but also at advancing India’s development in healthcare technology.
Developing and manufacturing surgical robots in India marks a significant shift in the company's focus, but Medtronic's commitment to R&D in India remains unwavering. The company’s R&D efforts aim to understand and meet the specific needs of the Indian market, ensuring that technological advancements are not only globally applicable but also locally relevant. This balanced approach between global innovation and local needs fully demonstrates Medtronic's development strategy in India.

Martha stated that innovation centers in India focus not only on the development of traditional medical devices but also on software capabilities for global products. The next growth area for Medtronic is robotics, with the company currently concentrating on significant advancements in surgical robotics. While research and development remains the cornerstone of Medtronic’s operations in India, the company does not rule out eventual manufacturing and product localization specifically tailored to the Indian market.

Despite supply chain challenges in fiscal year 2023, Medtronic reported that the third quarter of fiscal year 2024 would mark the fifth consecutive quarter of single-digit growth. Martha believes that innovation is a key tool for sustainable growth. The company’s R&D pipeline includes the launch of products in the hypertension and diabetes fields, covering technologies such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and data analysis.
