Novo Nordisk(NVO.US) R&D Director Martin Holst Lange said on Friday that he feels very confident about the company's ability to launch a pill version of the experimental weight-loss drug Amycretin before 2030. "I'm not sure about the timeline, but I can confidently say, at least within this decade," he stated. He further added that Novo Nordisk aims to advance the development of both oral and injectable forms of Amycretin simultaneously.
Novo Nordisk expects that its experimental weight-loss drugs, Amycretin and CagriSema (a fixed-dose combination of semaglutide and the long-acting amylin analogue cagrilintide), will have cardiovascular benefits similar to those of the popular weight-loss drug Wegovy.
On Thursday, Novo Nordisk announced positive results from the early clinical trials of Amycretin. In the phase one trial, Amycretin helped patients lose 13% of their body weight in 12 weeks. In comparison, Wegovy helped patients lose about 6% of their body weight in the same time frame. Boosted by this news, Novo Nordisk's stock closed nearly 9% higher on Thursday in the U.S. market.
