Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) Market Welcomes Another Strong Player.
Roche announced the launch of its first predictive artificial intelligence Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) device, the Accu-Chek Smartguide, at a press conference held on March 7, 2024, while also sharing details of its plan to enter the CGM market.
According to the introduction, Smartguide is not only a CGM product but also a novel solution. Its core highlight is the integration of an intelligent prediction algorithm, capable of forecasting the user's blood glucose levels for the next two hours and displaying the potential range of blood glucose values with error lines. Additionally, the system features a prediction function for nocturnal hypoglycemia risk.
This means that users can get an early understanding of the trend in blood glucose changes and take corresponding measures to adjust their diet and insulin dosage in a targeted manner, thereby better controlling blood glucose levels and reducing the risk of hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia.
Currently, Roche is working to obtain the CE mark and plans to sell the device in "select European countries" shortly after receiving certification. It is expected to compete with Abbott and Dexcom upon market entry.
