Regulatory Updates
Beijing Medical Insurance Bureau and Other Three Departments Jointly Issued the "Several Measures on Effectively Promoting the Implementation of Long-Term Prescription Policies for Outpatient Chronic Diseases"
On March 5, 2024, the Beijing Municipal Medical Security Bureau, the Beijing Municipal Health Commission, and the Beijing Municipal Drug Administration jointly formulated the "Several Measures on Effectively Promoting the Implementation of Long-Term Prescription Policies for Outpatient Chronic Diseases." The Several Measures clearly promote consistency in the types and specifications of chronic disease medications available at tertiary medical institutions and community health service centers. For insured individuals receiving treatment and obtaining medication at community health service centers, the 10% personal upfront payment requirement for Category B drugs under medical insurance will be eliminated. The Beijing Municipal Medical Security Bureau and other departments have adopted multiple measures to address practical difficulties in implementing the long-term prescription policy, better fulfilling the long-term medication needs of patients with chronic diseases. In terms of strengthening drug allocation management, a defined scope of chronic diseases suitable for long-term prescriptions will be established, and medical institutions will scientifically plan drug inventory for commonly used chronic disease medications. For drugs required by chronic disease patients but not yet available, community health service centers will maintain proper drug registration and ensure timely procurement and delivery.
