Pearl Bio today announced that it has signed an agreement with MSD worth up to$1 billionLicense, collaboration, and option agreement to jointly discover and develop biologics therapies containing non-standard amino acids for cancer through its proprietary GRO (Genomically Recoded Organisms) platform.

The company's GRO platform is primarily built on the research of its scientific co-founders, Dr. Farren Isaacs from Yale University and Dr. Michael Jewett from Stanford University.The platform can be used to encode and synthesize new chemicals, and develop multifunctional biologics with tunable properties.
The collaboration will initially focus on leveraging Pearl Bio's proprietary GRO technology, which offers unique capabilities usable in both cellular and cell-free systems, and targets previously difficult-to-target epitopes, to discover and develop biologics therapies for cancer treatment.

According to the agreement,Pearl Bio is eligible to receive total upfront and milestone payments of up to 1 billion US dollars.
