AstraZeneca announced on March 14 that it had entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Amolyt Pharma, a company that develops innovative therapeutic peptides for rare endocrine and metabolic disorders. AstraZeneca stated that this acquisition will strengthen Alexion, AstraZeneca's late-stage rare disease pipeline, and expand its bone metabolism franchise. Under the terms of the agreement, AstraZeneca will acquire all outstanding shares of Amolyt Pharma for a total consideration of up to $1.05 billion, including an upfront payment of $800 million upon closing of the transaction, and the right for Amolyt Pharma shareholders to receive an additional contingent payment of $250 million upon achieving specific regulatory milestones.
