On March 25, Novo Nordisk and Cardior Pharmaceuticals announced that Novo Nordisk agreed to acquire the latter for approximately US$1.1 billion, including an upfront payment and additional payments upon achieving certain development and commercial milestones.Cardior is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the discovery and development of RNA-based therapeutics aimed at preventing, repairing, and reversing heart diseases. Its leading technology platform focuses on novel RNA therapies targeting non-coding RNA (ncRNA). Dysregulation of ncRNA can lead to harmful cellular remodeling, impair overall cardiac function, and cause heart failure, playing a crucial regulatory role in cells.Cardior's leading project CDR132L is an ncRNA inhibitor based on oligonucleotides targeting micro-RNA-132, currently in Phase II clinical trials for the treatment of heart failure. PreviouslyClinical data from a Phase Ib trial published in the European Heart JournalCDR132L was safe and well-tolerated. Moreover, cardiac function improved in heart failure patients treated with CDR132L compared to placebo.Novo Nordisk's Executive Vice President of Development, Martin Holst Lange, stated: "By acquiring Cardior, Novo Nordisk will continue to strengthen its pipeline in the field of cardiovascular diseases. We are highly impressed by the scientific work conducted by the Cardior team, especially the research on CDR132L. CDR132L has a unique mechanism of action and is expected to become a first-class therapy aimed at halting or partially reversing the progression of heart failure in patients."Copyright © 2024 PHARMCUBE.
