On March 26, 2024, the launch meeting for the IIT clinical research project of Meta10-19 Injection, a metabolism-enhanced CD19 CAR-T cell developed by Leman Biotech Co., Ltd. (referred to as "Leman"), was successfully held at the Hupao campus of the Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine (hereinafter referred to as "Zhejiang University Children's Hospital").
This IIT study mainly explores the safety and efficacy of recurrent or refractory CD19-positive B-cell hematological malignancies, aiming to open up more treatment options for pediatric patients. Notably, the Clinical Center of Zhejiang University Children's Hospital is another key clinical research center for Meta10-19 injection following the First Affiliated Hospital of the University of Science and Technology of China (Anhui Provincial Hospital) and the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine. The Hematology and Oncology Center of Zhejiang University Children's Hospital has been conducting CAR-T cell therapy since 2015, making it one of the earliest pediatric hospital departments in China to implement CAR-T cell therapy, with extensive experience in treatment and research. Its participation marks a further deepening and expansion of this research project in the field of clinical applications.Dr. Xu Xiaojun, the director of the Hematology and Oncology Center at the Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, is the principal investigator (PI) for the Meta10-19 IIT Clinical Research Project at this center and served as the host of this offline launch meeting. Dr. Tang Yongmin, the academic leader of the Hematology and Oncology Center at the Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, along with the medical team, and the sponsor...Leman Bio's R&D team togetherAttended this meeting. At the launch meeting, frontline clinical experts and Leman's R&D personnel conducted in-depth and detailed discussions and exchanges on the therapeutic mechanism and principle of Meta10-19 injection, as well as medication practices in clinical applications. Director Xu Xiaojun expressed his hope that both parties would collaborate closely, make every effort to steadily advance the project progress, and jointly accelerate the application and transformation of research achievements on metabolism-enhanced CD19 CAR-T cells.
Leman Biotech Co., Ltd. has developed a metabolism-enhanced CAR-T cell therapy, which uses only 1%-5% of the conventional commercial dose, thus not only reducing costs but also having relatively fewer side effects. Among the 20 adult patients treated, no obvious side effects commonly associated with CAR-T treatment, such as cytokine storms, have been observed, preliminarily verifying its safety and efficacy. After careful and thorough investigation, the clinical experts of the Blood Tumor Center at Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University introduced Leman Biotech's metabolism-enhanced CAR-T cell therapy for application in pediatric patients, which is expected to bring new hope and treatment prospects for them.References:
