On April 1, 2024, GenScript Biotech Corporation announced that its non-wholly owned subsidiary, Legend Biotech Corporation ("Legend Biotech"), through its U.S.-based entity Legend Biotech USA Inc. and in partnership with Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. ("Janssen"), has entered into a significant collaboration agreement with Novartis AG ("Novartis"). This collaboration aims to enhance the global production and supply capabilities of Legend Biotech's self-developed B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA)-targeted chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy, Cilta-cel. This partnership with Novartis marks a crucial step for Legend Biotech in optimizing the global supply chain for Cilta-cel.

According to the terms of the agreement, Novartis will undertake contract manufacturing services for the clinical and commercial supply of ciltacabtagene autoleucel, which will effectively supplement the production capacity of Legend Biotech USA and Janssen Pharmaceuticals for this product, ensuring stable global supply. The signing of this agreement will further promote the global application of Legend Biotech's CAR-T therapy, providing patients with more treatment options.

A relevant person in charge of Legend Biotech stated that the company will continue to uphold the concept of pursuing a cure, and work with global partners to promote the development of the cell therapy field, making greater contributions to the cause of human health. At the same time, the company will also pay close attention to market dynamics, continuously optimize its product structure and industry layout to achieve sustained and steady growth.

This collaboration builds on the foundation of previous successful cooperation between the two parties. In 2023, Legend Biotech entered into an exclusive global licensing agreement with Novartis, reflecting Novartis' recognition of Legend Biotech’s innovative capabilities. The current in-depth cooperation at the supply chain level between the two companies highlights their commitment to advancing the development and accessibility of innovative therapies, as well as their strategic consensus on building an efficient and sustainable supply chain within the biopharmaceutical industry.

Note: Due to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange being closed on March 29 and April 1, Genscript announced plans to release its announcement at the earliest feasible window (i.e., the evening of April 1).
