Novartis Inks $1.16B Deal to License Arvinas’ Oral PROTAC AR Degrader ARV-766 for Prostate Cancer

April 11,ArvinasAnnounced that it hasNovartisNovartis has reached an exclusive strategic licensing agreement, under which Novartis will obtain the rights to develop and commercialize androgen receptor (AR) degraders based on Arvinas' second-generation PROTAC technology worldwide.ARV-766The rights, used for the treatment of prostate cancer. The deal also includes an asset purchase agreement where Arvinas will sell its preclinical AR-V7 program to Novartis.

Under the terms of the agreement, Novartis will be responsible for the global clinical development and commercialization of ARV-766 and will own all research, development, manufacturing, and commercialization rights related to the preclinical AR-V7 program.Arvinas to Receive Total Upfront Payment of $150 Million, up to $1.01 billion in additional development, regulatory, and commercial milestone payments, as well as tiered royalties for ARV-766.

ARV-766 is an orally bioavailable PROTAC® protein degrader designed to selectively target and degrade the androgen receptor (AR). Preclinical studies have shown that, in addition to tumors with AR mutations or amplifications, ARV-766 has demonstrated activity in wild-type AR tumor models, both of which are common underlying mechanisms of resistance to currently available AR-targeted therapies.

Arvinas CEO John Houston said in a statement: "We believe that Novartis' expertise and scale will accelerate the development of ARV-766, which has the potential to become a first/best-in-class treatment for patients with prostate cancer."
