Manufacturing cell therapies is complex both operationally and technically. As cell therapies are rapidly transforming the treatment of many different diseases, the demand for these treatments is significantly increasing. This collaboration enables Bristol-Myers Squibb to expand its manufacturing capabilities, meeting the growing needs of its diverse cell therapy portfolio through a scalable platform, with the potential to improve turnaround times and deliver the promise of faster cell therapies to more patients.
President of Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Cell Therapy Organization, Lynelle B. Hoch, said: "The agreement with Cellares represents the latest step in supporting our comprehensive strategy to unlock the full potential of CAR-T therapies and provide transformative treatments to as many patients as possible. Our collaboration with Cellares enhances our internal manufacturing capabilities for CAR-T cell therapy, giving us access to the first end-to-end automated cell therapy manufacturing platform, helping ensure we meet the high demand for these differentiated therapies, both now and in the future."

This agreement expands the existing collaboration between Bristol-Myers Squibb and Cellares. In August 2023, Bristol-Myers Squibb participated in Cellares' Series C funding round and launched the first Integrated Development and Manufacturing Organization (IDMO) smart factory, striving to meet the global demand for cell therapies. In the same month, Bristol-Myers Squibb joined Cellares’ Technology Adoption Partnership (TAP) program to evaluate the automated manufacturing capabilities of the Cell Shuttle.
Cellares CEO and Co-Founder Fabian Gerlinghaus stated, "This agreement with Bristol-Myers Squibb aligns with our strategy to build a global network of high-throughput, automated smart factories to meet the growing global demand for cell therapies. We look forward to demonstrating how our innovative technology’s focus on standardization can accelerate commercial-scale manufacturing and global deployment. Our collaboration with Bristol-Myers Squibb, along with our collective expertise, further advances our mission to...Accelerate Global Patients' Access to Life-Saving Cell Therapies。”
