Heavyweight Peptide Drugs 2023
This list compiles statistics on 34 peptide drugs with sales exceeding $100 million in 2023.
In terms of statistical results, Novo Nordisk's Semaglutide stands out at the top of the sales rankings, with its sales reaching $21,161 million in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 93.8%. The injectable hypoglycemic version of Semaglutide, Ozempic, achieved sales of DKK 95,718 million, equivalent to $13,892 million, marking a significant year-on-year increase of 64%; the oral hypoglycemic version, Rybelsus, reached sales of DKK 18,750 million, equivalent to $2,721 million, showing a year-on-year growth of 70%; and the weight-loss version, Wegovy, reported sales of DKK 31,343 million, equivalent to $4,549 million, experiencing an explosive year-on-year increase of 420%.
Lilly's Dulaglutide ranks second temporarily, with 2023 sales of $7,133 Mn, a year-on-year decrease of 4.1%; Lilly's Tirzepatide was approved for marketing in May 2022 and has rapidly gained volume at an astonishing rate, ranking third on the list in 2023, with 2023 sales of $5,339 Mn.

In addition, other top ten peptide drugs include: Insulin Glargine, Insulin Aspart, Liraglutide, Insulin Human, Insulin Lispro, Romiplostim, and Carfilzomib.
It should be noted that, due to Novartis not disclosing the sales data of Neoral®/Sandimmun(e)®, Cyclosporine is only counted from AbbVie's Restasis®, which may cause a deviation in the actual sales decline. Astellas did not disclose the sales of some products, so the following products from Astellas are not included in the statistics: Gonax® (Degarelix), Funguard/MYCAMINE® (Micafungin), Eligard® (Leuprolide). The statistics for Glucagon (Glucagon) include the generic version sold by Amphastar.

Notably, the sales of Vasostrict® (Vasopressin) and Velcade® (Bortezomib) have plummeted by 71% and 87% year-on-year respectively, removing them from the statistical list.
In addition, Imcivree® (Setmelanotide) increased by 357% year-over-year, surpassing expectations. DAYBUE™ (Trofinetide) was approved by the FDA in March 2023 for the treatment of Rett syndrome in patients aged two years and older, including both adults and children. As the first and only drug approved for the treatment of Rett syndrome, it achieved sales of $32.1 million within nearly nine months of its approval.
