Recently,GE HealthcareReleased the first product forHeadOf3.0TMagnetic Resonance——SIGNA MAGNUS Microbrain Imaging Platform`, and showcased this product at the ISMRM (International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine) annual meeting held in Singapore from May 4th to 9th.`

SIGNA MAGNUS is specifically designed for neuroscience and oncology research, focusing on head imaging to deliver images with greater detail and clarity. It enables in-depth exploration of brain microstructures, microvasculature, and functionality. With SIGNA MAGNUS, neuroscientists, neurologists, neuroradiologists, and oncologists can overcome barriers and enhance their ability to diagnose, understand, and treat complex diseases.
SIGNA MAGNUS adopts innovativeMulti-layer Asymmetric Gradient DesignAndHyperG Gradient Technology, the main gradient coil is double-layered, with enhanced diffusion performance, reaching up to300mT/m Gradient Field StrengthAnd750mT/m/s Gradient Switching Rate, achieving extremely high b-value diffusion and short echo times (TEs), detecting complex details of the brain that were previously undetectable. Information on the GE Healthcare official website shows that Dr. Vincent Magnotta, Professor of Radiology and Director of the MR Research Center in the Department of Neurology at the University of Iowa, stated that the use of MAGNUS gradients can increase the b-value to30,000 or even higher. In addition, SIGNA MAGNUS adopts91cm Long Magnet Design, providing a larger working space for the gradient coil, while using hollow internal cooling on all three axes, optimizing the characteristics of pressure and flow.

Researchers can fully leverage SIGNA MAGNUS to break through limitations in structural, diffusion, and functional technologies, and conduct further studies using the latest deep learning algorithms provided by GE Healthcare, which helps in discovering new parameters and biomarkers. In March 2024, the research-focused SIGNA MAGNUS was installed at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Currently, SIGNA MAGNUS has submitted an application to the FDA and has not yet entered the commercial sales phase. In the future, multiple 3.0T systems from GE Healthcare can be upgraded to SIGNA MAGNUS.
