On May 10, FieldForce announced the initiation of its first-in-human study for the magnetic field pulsed field ablation (PFA) system.
The company began evaluating FieldForce Czech Republic Prague at Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital in the United States in 2004. It is expected that the VCAS study will recruit up to 60 patients across as many as five sites globally.
Field Medical, headquartered in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, California, aims to demonstrate the safety and performance of its PFA system. This means it hopes to address the limitations of existing PFA and radiofrequency ablation systems. This includes more time-efficient treatment options for ventricular arrhythmias.
Field Medical was founded in 2022 by Dr. Steven Mickelsen, the founder of Farapulse. Mickelsen also serves as the CEO. He leads his former team of developers who worked on pulsed field ablation technology.Acquired by Boston Scientific Corporation in 2021. Now, the company hopes to take similarBoston Scientific CorporationAndMedtronic, their PFA technology has been FDA-approved.
The company's technology aims to become the first and only contact force PFA catheter optimized for use in the ventricles. It believes this could lead to predictable, time-saving, and safe treatments. Field Medical's magnetic field bending technology utilizes non-intuitive physics to deliver strong and brief electric fields.
Dr. Vivek Reddy, director of the Mount Sinai Emergency Center, said that the system has shown "great promise" in the early stages of the trial. Reddy stated that the system has the potential to "completely revolutionize catheter ablation for complex ventricular arrhythmias." He even suggested that it might surpass current standards of care.
"Our vision at Field Medical is to transform ventricular tachycardia ablation into a widely accessible one-hour outpatient procedure and improve safety outcomes."Mickelsen said, "The early data from our research on VCAS is encouraging. Just as PFA transforms atrial fibrillation, the FieldForce ablation system, once optimized, is changing the treatment paradigm for ventricular arrhythmias, bringing hope to millions of patients worldwide. With strong support from investors, involvement from renowned physicians, and the breakthrough potential of our technology, we are set to redefine the standard for cardiac ablation once again."
