Medtronic and Arecor Announce Breakthrough Collaboration to Develop Novel Thermostable Insulin for Next-Generation Implantable Pump

Medical Qian learned that, recently, Arecor and Medtronic have collaborated to develop a new type of insulin,Can be used in Medtronic's new insulin pumps under development. These new insulin pumps will be located subcutaneously rather than on the skin surface.
It is reported that the new insulin from Arecor and Medtronic is still in the early stages of development and will require clinical trials.
This research collaborationAiming to develop a new type of insulin that is highly concentrated and thermally stable,For use by Medtronic in next-generation pumps. This new insulin can minimize the need for pump maintenance interventions, while reducing costs and enhancing the utility for physicians.
Gary Durack, senior director of new projects at Medtronic Diabetes, explained the potential differences in delivering novel insulin through implantable pumps:
"Medtronic Diabetes is a pioneer in providing implantable insulin pump systems for patients with type 1 diabetes who cannot tolerate traditional subcutaneous insulin injection therapy," said Dula. "With the implantable insulin pump system, the delivery of insulin aims to be directly absorbed by the liver through the implanted pump. We are very pleased to collaborate with Arecor to explore new ways to develop this critical treatment option for the subset of individuals who may benefit from it."
Arecor CEO Sarah Howell highlighted the rise of insulin delivery devices in the diabetes field. This extends to more durable equipment as well as miniaturized pumps. A new type of implantable insulin pump from Medtronic could mark another significant advancement in this area.
Howell said, "We are delighted to play a role in this progress and develop a highly differentiated insulin that has the potential to transform the treatment of an extremely vulnerable patient population." "This is one of many collaborations we hope to achieve to further enhance the benefits of these new devices."
Arecor and JDRF have established a partnership to accelerate the development of various insulin products.
