Lilly's Mounjaro® (Tirzepatide Injection) Approved by NMPA as the World's First and Only GIP/GLP-1 Receptor Agonist

Eli Lilly China announced that Mounjaro® (tirzepatide injection) has been approved by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA). This innovative once-weekly glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP)/ glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist is indicated for adult patients with type 2 diabetes whose blood sugar remains inadequately controlled despite lifestyle modifications and treatment with metformin and/or sulfonylureas. Mounjaro® is the world's first and currently only GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist. The indication for long-term weight management in China is still under review. Results from the SURPASS series of Phase III studies showed that, compared to control medications, Mounjaro® significantly reduced body weight in patients with type 2 diabetes (a key secondary endpoint).
