GSK Announces Acquisition of Elsie Biotechnologies for Up to $50 Million (£39 Million). This acquisition integrates Elsie's oligonucleotide discovery, synthesis, and delivery technologies to enhance GSK's R&D capabilities. Prior to this, GSK had established a research collaboration with Elsie in July 2023.
Data generated based on the Elsie platform, combined with GSK's expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning, will support the development of predictive models for future oligonucleotide drug design.
Oligonucleotides have the unique ability to regulate gene expression, making them an attractive approach to addressing a large proportion of therapeutic targets that cannot be tackled by traditional small molecules or biologics.
This acquisition aligns with GSK's approach of combining science and technology, including advancing novel platform technologies to accelerate drug development, ultimately delivering innovative medicines to patients better and faster. GSK is currently advancing oligonucleotide therapies for chronic hepatitis B and fatty liver disease, as well as other therapeutic areas beyond liver diseases.
