Recently, the 14th "Chinese Scholars and the Development of Shanghai in the 21st Century" seminar, themed "AI4S: A New Paradigm for Scientific Research," was held at Fudan University. As a pioneer and practitioner of AI4S in fields such as biomedicine and new materials,XtalPi (QuantumPharm,Stock Code:2228.HK)Invited to participate in the seminar and discuss with several academicians and scholars on the basic paradigms, challenges faced, and breakthroughs and advancements brought by cutting-edge technologies such as AI in scientific research.Ma Jian
XtalPi Co-Founder/CEO,
Co-Chair of Zhangjiang AI Drug Discovery Alliance
During the opening ceremony main forum,Jian Ma, Co-founder/CEO of XtalPi, and Co-chairman of Zhangjiang AI Drug Discovery Alliance, E Weinan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and applied mathematician, Yi Ke Guo, foreign academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering and provost of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Zexiang Li, chairman of Googol Technology and professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Yuan Qi, dean of the Shanghai Institute of Scientific Intelligence, respectively delivered keynote reports. The five guests shared how to use AI technology to promote the innovation and development of scientific research paradigms from different perspectives.

This seminar closely aligns with the strategic development needs of the country, focusing on the theme of "AI for Science," and will build greater consensus, gather more wisdom, and form a stronger synergy for the transformation of scientific research paradigms and the development of technological innovation.XtalPi Co-founder and CEO Dr. Jian Ma gave a speech titled "AI for Science from the Perspective of Philosophy of Science"Share his research insights based on theoretical physics, as well as XtalPi's practical experience in breaking through the bottlenecks of AI technology application and development from a data perspective.
Dr. Ma Jian stated that, taking the biopharmaceutical industry as an example, from target research to clinical trials, the research subjects of drug development span a vast dimension ranging from protein molecules to cells, animals, and humans, leading to a "dimensionality curse" in new drug development. As a new tool, AI can address the two major challenges brought by the "dimensionality curse" — disease mechanism research and engineering problems — from a data perspective. However, data barriers have become a significant factor restricting industrial development. The production and accumulation of high-quality data have emerged as crucial breakthroughs for improving R&D efficiency and success rates. XtalPi has built a high-quality data infrastructure using its AI robotics lab, which can efficiently and effectively collect various types of chemical reaction data, promoting AI model iteration and driving high-quality industry growth. At the same time, he also called for more concern and collaboration from both academia and the industry in the future to jointly achieve the new scientific research paradigm of "Data for Model, AI for Science."
The opening ceremony of this seminar was hosted by Li Lin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of the Shanghai Association of Returned Overseas Chinese Scholars. The closing ceremony was hosted by Wu Zhiqiang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and executive vice president of the Shanghai Association of Returned Overseas Chinese Scholars. Jin Li, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of Fudan University, delivered a closing speech titled "Focusing on Scientific Intelligence Layout, Leading Innovation in Research Paradigms." Guests from academia, industry, and research shared their insights on the present and future of AI for Science from their respective fields.
