Developer of Extracorporeal Artificial Heart Devices

On June 19, 2024, Union Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as "Wuhan Union")Professor Dong Nianguo's team completed the first commercial application in China of MoyoAssist® Extra-VAD (Full Magnetic Levitation External Artificial Heart). After assisting a patient with acute heart failure following a myocardial infarction for 6 days, they were successfully bridged to a long-term implantable artificial heart.
Thus far, MoyoAssist®Extra-VADOfficially Launching Chinese ProductionA New Era of Full Magnetic Suspension External Artificial Heart for Treating Heart Failure Patients。

Patient Information:
After detailed diagnosis and analysis by Professor Dong Nianguo's team, considering the patient's good lung function, to avoid unnecessary lung assistance and blood damage, while reducing anticoagulation intensity and minimizing bleeding risks, a more thorough left...Ventricular Decompression,On June 19, it was decided to switch to Extra-VAD assistance, and withdraw ECMO, to provide more precise ventricular assistance for the patient.Professor Dong Nianguo said, "Because of ECMOAuxiliaryTo"On the seventh day, the patient developed ecchymosis all over the body. After switching to Extra-VAD, the anticoagulation intensity decreased, and the bleeding spots gradually recovered."

Professor Dong Nianguo's team considered that the patient had type O blood, weighed over 90 kilograms, and faced difficulties in waiting for a donor heart. Additionally, the patient's right heart function was relatively good and they were not of advanced age. After comprehensive evaluation, it was determined that long-term LVAD implantation would be more suitable for the patient. Moreover, the hemodynamics of Extra-VAD are similar to those of an implantable VAD.Bridging to a long-term implanted LVAD via Extra-VAD is more beneficial for evaluating the patient's right heart function, while helping the patient navigate through the critical period following an acute myocardial infarction and reducing the risk of surgical suture bleeding.

Extra-VAD Bridging to Long-term LVAD Implantation: A Successful Exploration of Comprehensive Mechanical Support for Acute Myocardial Infarction. Professor Nian-Guo Dong stated, "It is clear that the Extra-VAD, a short-to-mid-term mechanical circulatory support device, can be used to assist circulation in patients with cardiogenic shock to facilitate the recovery of the native heart function. It can also serve as a bridge to long-term mechanical circulatory support and heart transplantation."Extra-VAD can rapidly improve perfusion of vital organs throughout the body, providing effective circulatory support. It offers hemodynamic support and organ perfusion for patients ranging from several hours to weeks, serving as a necessary bridge for recovery or clinical decision-making.

MoyoAssist® Extra-VAD is an all-magnetic levitation external ventricular assist device developed through the collaboration of magAssist and Wuhan Union Hospital, combining medical expertise and innovative technology. It exhibits excellent hemocompatibility and ease of management, addressing unmet clinical needs in heart failure treatment with greater precision. This achievement not only represents a new model for the clinical transformation and application of medical-engineering collaborative innovation in China but also significantly enhances the overall allocation of medical resources for acute and severe heart failure treatment in the country. Its development marks a milestone in promoting high-end life-support equipment produced in China.
