This round of financing was led by Forbion, with continued participation from Syncona and Oxford Science Enterprises. Additionally, TCGX and Advent Life Sciences made their first investments in the company. This financing brings the total amount raised by the company since its establishment to $290 million. The company, headquartered in London with a branch in Massachusetts, USA,Founded in 2023, completed a $120 million Series A financing round in June of the same year and acquired the ophthalmic gene therapy company Applied Genetic Technologies Corporation (AGTC).

The company will use the new funds to continue the research and development of its core product, AGTC-501, which uses AAV2 as a vector and has an indication forX-linked Retinitis Pigmentosa (XLRP),Currently in Phase II/III clinical trials. The uniqueness of AGTC-501 lies in its ability to express the full-length RPGR protein, which can repair all photoreceptor damage caused by XLRP. In addition, Beacon Therapeutics plans to use part of the funds to conduct a Phase I/II trial for its dry age-related macular degeneration project.

In addition, as part of this financing, Beacon expanded its board members, including Dr. Dmitrij Hristodorov and Wouter Joustra from Forbion, as well as Cariad Chester, Managing Partner of TCGX.

Beacon Therapeutics' CEO David Fellows stated that the company will focus on advancing its ophthalmology gene therapy pipeline. The addition of new board members and funding will support the continued progress of the company’s pipeline, accelerating the clinical development and commercialization of AGTC-501.
