News on August 6: Cloudbreak Pharma (Cloudbreak Vision Cloud) announced that it has signed a licensing agreement with Santen Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. ("Santen Pharmaceutical"). Cloudbreak Pharma will license its ongoing research and development program forPterygium TreatmentofMulti-Kinase Inhibitor CBT-001Authorized to Santen Pharmaceutical, this authorization covers the Southeast Asian region, including Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Indonesia.

According to the terms of the agreement, Cloudbreak Pharma has granted Santen Pharmaceutical the rights to develop, manufacture, and commercialize the CBT-001 drug in these regions. Cloudbreak Pharma will receive an upfront payment and milestone payments totaling up to $91 million. Additionally, Cloudbreak Pharma will also receive a double-digit percentage of the product’s future net sales as royalties for this product.

CBT-001 is a product developed by Cloudbreak Pharma.Emulsified Nintedanib Eye DropsMainly used for the treatment of pterygium. Nintedanib is a multi-kinase inhibitor that primarily targets VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) receptors, PDGF (platelet-derived growth factor) receptors, and FGF (fibroblast growth factor) receptors, thereby inhibiting angiogenesis and fibrosis.CBT-001 can provide doctors and patients with a new treatment option for pterygium through eye drops, inhibiting disease progression.

It is reported that CBT-001 has completed Phase 2 clinical trials in the United States and is currently conducting large-scale global multi-center Phase 3 clinical trials in the United States, China, Australia, New Zealand, and India.

Pterygium is a non-malignant abnormal proliferation of fibrovascular tissue on the ocular surface, which starts from the bulbar conjunctiva and extends to the corneal surface. Pterygium has an invasive growth tendency, with a recurrence tendency and non-metastatic characteristics. Although pterygium is non-malignant, it may cause significant ocular symptoms such as congestion, irritation, pain, and foreign body sensation, thereby affecting patients' quality of life. Currently, there are no approved drugs for the treatment of pterygium in clinical practice. When pterygium invades the visual axis or persistent congestion occurs, surgical excision is usually required. Although there are various surgical methods, such as transposition surgery and conjunctival flap transplantation, these methods tend to have a recurrence risk.

According to the press release from Cloudbreak Pharma, the company is an innovation-driven clinical ophthalmic biotechnology firm dedicated to developing innovative and differentiated therapies to address unmet medical needs in the field of ophthalmology. The company has established a broad and innovative pipeline comprising eight drug candidates, covering major diseases of both the anterior and posterior segments of the eye. Among these, four are in clinical stages, while the other four are in preclinical stages.
