August 8, 2024The world's leading Contract Research, Development and Manufacturing Organization (CRDMO) service companyWuXi BiologicsAnnouncement of Collaboration with TCR-Based Immuno-Oncology Biotech CompanyMedigene AGAchieve oneA Three-Year Strategic Research Service Collaboration Covering Multiple TargetsThe two parties will design and study TCR-mediated TCE therapies (TCR-TCEs) for the treatment of refractory tumors. This collaboration will combine Medigene's TCR generation and characterization capabilities, which balance sensitivity, specificity, and safety (3S), with WuXi Biologics' unique CD3 antibody, industry-leading T-cell engager (TCE) technology platform, and proprietary bispecific antibody technology platform WuXiBody™, to jointly accelerate the research and development of therapies for refractory cancers.
WuXiBody™ is a bispecific antibody technology platform with independent intellectual property rights developed by WuXi Biologics. The platform overcomes the technical bottlenecks faced by most bispecific antibody platforms, offering advantages such as high expression levels, high stability, good solubility, and ease of purification. It can also save 6 to 18 months of R&D time for each project and significantly reduce the production cost of bispecific antibodies, achieving more cost-effective and environmentally friendly drug development. The WuXiBody™ platform can use almost any antibody sequence to construct bispecific antibodies, potentially reducing immunogenicity risks and extending their in vivo half-life. Additionally, the WuXiBody™ platform offers unique flexibility, allowing the construction of various valencies (e.g., bivalent, trivalent, or tetravalent bispecific antibodies) to meet the biological needs of different projects.WuXi BiologicsChief Executive OfficerDr. Chris Chen said:“"Medigene is a leader in the field of TCR generation and characterization research, and we are very pleased to have reached this collaboration. This partnership further highlights the advantages of our CRDMO business model in research services, demonstrating our commitment to accelerating the development of innovative products for global partners through leading technology and reliable services. We believe this collaboration will bear fruit and bring good news to cancer patients worldwide."MedigeneChief Executive OfficerMr. Selwyn Ho said:“"We are very pleased to partner with WuXi Biologics in this research collaboration. WuXi Biologics’ unique CD3 antibodies have been extensively validated, and combined with their leading WuXiBody™ and TCE platforms, they can support our application of TCR in novel molecular formats including TCR-TCE. Compared to TCR-T therapy, it holds the potential to deliver higher clinical value for patients. Medigene’s capabilities in developing potentially best-in-class 3S TCRs for TCR-T cell therapies are widely recognized. We believe we can further extend this expertise into non-cell therapies, continuing to provide better treatment options for patients while creating long-term value for shareholders."“
