【Pharmaceutical Network Industry Dynamics】As the centralized procurement becomes routine, the work of consistency evaluation for generic drugs is proceeding. Statistics show that in the first half of 2024, 1,927 acceptance numbers in China passed or were considered to have passed the consistency evaluation, involving more than 650 varieties (counted by product name) and more than 570 pharmaceutical companies (counted by group).
In terms of the number of drugs approved by various pharmaceutical companies, Fosun Pharmaceutical, CR PHARMA COMM, and Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical Co.,Ltd. are at the forefront, each with 27 drugs. They are followed by China National Pharmaceutical Group Corporation and Qilu Pharmaceutical, with 25 and 23 varieties respectively.
Among them, Fosun Pharmaceutical has 27 varieties, including 12 injectables, 10 conventional tablets/capsules, 2 extended-release tablets, 2 oral solutions, and 1 orally disintegrating tablet, mainly concentrated in therapeutic areas such as nervous system drugs, systemic anti-infective drugs, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular system drugs, anti-tumor drugs, and immunomodulators. Currently, Fosun Pharmaceutical has accumulated over 110 varieties that have passed evaluations, with approximately 30 varieties successfully selected in the national procurement projects, leading to increased sales volumes. According to the Q1 2024 operating performance report, Fosun Pharmaceutical achieved revenue of 10.157 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 6.56%; net profit attributable to shareholders of the listed company was 610 million yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 38.22%. Fosun Pharmaceutical stated that the decline in revenue was related to a significant year-on-year decrease in revenue from products such as Azvudine Tablets in 2024. In fact, excluding these related products, Fosun Pharmaceutical's revenue for the reporting period showed year-on-year growth. Key products such as Trastuzumab for Injection (brand name in China: Hanquyou), Serplulimab Injection (brand name in China: Hansizhuang), and Netupitant Palonosetron Capsules (brand name in China: Aokangze) maintained rapid revenue growth. Revenue from key innovative products also grew rapidly, and the revenue structure continued to improve.
China National Pharmaceutical Group Corporation has 25 varieties, including 15 injectables, 6 conventional tablets, 1 inhalant, 1 sustained-release tablet, 1 oral solution, and 1 eye drop, mainly focusing on systemic anti-infective drugs.
Respiratory System Medications, as well as therapeutic areas such as the digestive system and metabolic drugs. It is reported that the total number of generic drugs approved by China National Pharmaceutical Group Corporation has exceeded 90. The 2023 annual report shows that the group's revenue exceeded 680 billion yuan, with an increase of more than 7.5%; the total profit exceeded 28.5 billion yuan, with an increase of more than 9%.
Qilu Pharmaceutical's 23 varieties include 13 common tablets/capsules, 6 injectables, 2 dry suspensions, 1 granule, and 1 extended-release tablet, focusing on systemic anti-infective drugs, antitumor agents, and immunomodulators. Currently, Qilu Pharmaceutical has more than 170 approved varieties in total and has been selected for over 60 varieties in the national procurement so far. In 2022, Qilu Pharmaceutical achieved sales revenue of 37.5 billion yuan. Notably, this pharmaceutical company also stands out in exports. Despite a general decline in China’s overall drug exports, the company's export value reached 565 million U.S. dollars from January to July 2023, including 770 million yuan in human formulations exports, marking a 22% year-on-year increase. In May, Qilu Pharmaceutical's Gefitinib Tablets (Yiruike®) went on sale in the U.S. market, becoming the first generic Gefitinib Tablets available in the United States. In June, the antitumor therapeutic Cisplatin Injection received special FDA approval for rapid market entry in the U.S., marking the first time a Chinese pharmaceutical company supplied a shortage drug to the U.S. using a product already on sale in the domestic market. To date, Qilu Pharmaceutical has exported 24 formulation products to the U.S., 15 formulations to Europe, with products sold in more than 90 countries and regions worldwide, benefiting approximately 1 billion patients annually.
