The Science and Technology Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Medical Device Registration Department of the National Medical Products Administration conducted evaluation work on the results of the challenge, and announced the "List of Outstanding Units in the Artificial Intelligence Medical Device Innovation Task Challenge" on August 9, 2024. To accelerate the deep integration of artificial intelligence technology with medical devices and better serve and safeguard the health and well-being of the people, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Medical Products Administration jointly launched the Innovative Task List for Artificial Intelligence Medical Devices in 2021. Focused on two directions—intelligent products and supporting environments—the initiative highlights eight categories of tasks, including intelligent auxiliary diagnostic products, intelligent auxiliary treatment products, and medical artificial intelligence databases. The China Academy of Information and Communications Technology and the Center for Medical Device Evaluation of the National Medical Products Administration were entrusted as the organizational management units responsible for overseeing the selection process. It is reported that a total of 1,035 projects were submitted across China, and after multiple rounds of selection, 221 project teams (72 listed and 149 potential) with strong foundations, high clinical value, and advanced technical capabilities have advanced to the list-attacking phase.

During the two-year process of tackling key problems, the shortlisted teams have worked together to innovate and strive for breakthroughs. Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, brain-computer interfaces, and wearable sensors have accelerated integration, empowerment, improvement, and substitution of traditional diagnosis and treatment models. Gradually, a group of excellent innovative products in artificial intelligence medical devices have emerged and been widely applied in clinical settings.
