iView Therapeutics recently announced that it has completed patient enrollment for the Phase 1/2 clinical trial of IVW-1001.IVW-1001 is a novel TRPM8 agonist delivered via ocular wipes for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease. The company is expected to report preliminary data in the first quarter of 2025.Dry eye syndrome (dry eye) is a common and complex ophthalmic condition that affects millions of people worldwide.Dry eye syndrome can cause persistent stinging, burning sensation, light sensitivity, blurred vision, and eye fatigue.iView Therapeutics Develops Class 1 Innovative DrugIVW-1001, through its mechanism as a TRPM8 cold receptor agonist, offers a promising novel therapeutic option targeting the underlying cause of dry eye disease.. In addition, this investigational drug adopts an innovative route of administration through eyelid wiping.Public information shows,TRPM8 (Transient Receptor Potential M8) is a cold-sensitive receptor that can detect corneal temperature drops caused by tear evaporation. Increasing the activity of this receptor can enhance baseline tear secretion and the frequency of blinking.Developing agonists for this target can promote tear secretion and rapidly improve the symptoms of dry eye disease. This is different from existing anti-inflammatory, antioxidant products and artificial tears, and also represents an innovative mechanism for treating dry eye syndrome."We are very pleased to reach this important milestone in the clinical development of IVW-1001," said Dr. Houman Hemmati, Chief Medical Advisor and ophthalmologist at iView Therapeutics. "Completing patient enrollment brings us closer to providing a potential new treatment option for patients with dry eye disease. We eagerly await the trial results and remain optimistic about their possible impact on patient care."”iView TherapeuticsDr. Bo Liang, co-founder, chairman, and CEO, stated: "Completing patient enrollment ahead of schedule demonstrates the dedication of our clinical team and significant interest from the ophthalmology community in our product. IVW-1001’s unique TRPM8 activation mechanism and innovative delivery method via ocular wipes could offer a differentiated treatment option for dry eye patients globally. We look forward to sharing our findings promptly after the clinical data analysis."References:
