【Pharmaceutical Network Industry DynamicsAs of October 27, since October 1, at least 10 Chinese companies dedicated to innovative drug development have announced the completion of a new round of financing, with at least four of them focusing on cell therapy drug research and development.

On October 18, NOVABIOTX completed a Pre-A round of financing worth tens of millions of RMB. The funds raised from this round will mainly be used to advance the clinical trials of the NP001 project and support the research and development of other products in the pipeline, with the aim of accelerating the clinical translation and commercialization process of Treg therapy.

It is reported that NOVABIOTX has four Treg cell therapy drugs under development. The NP001 project is progressing rapidly and has obtained the ethical approval for investigator-initiated (IIT) clinical trials from the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University. Meanwhile, the CMC development and non-clinical studies that meet the requirements for IND submission are nearing completion, with plans to file IND applications with the U.S. FDA and China's NMPA by the end of this year. The Treg-targeted product NC001 is expected to confirm the candidate molecule by the end of this year, entering the formal CMC development stage early next year. The allogeneic NP005 project is also under parallel development.

On October 18, Shanghai Ruoyi Biotechnology Co., Ltd. also completed a Pre-A+ round of financing worth tens of millions of yuan. The proceeds from this round of financing will mainly be used for the technology transfer of the pilot to commercial production process of the third-generation botulinum toxin drug pipeline (Sf9 cells, natural amino acid sequence).

Data shows that Ruoyi Biotechnology is a biotech startup focusing on the innovation and R&D of "all-natural" recombinant botulinum toxin protein drugs. The company's core technologies include a zinc finger protein drug delivery technology platform and a recombinant botulinum toxin preparation technology based on insect cells-baculovirus.

It is reported that Shanghai Ruoyi Biotechnology Co., Ltd has 2 third-generation botulinum toxin drug pipelines entering the IND application preparation stage. In addition, it has completed the reserve of multiple engineered botulinum toxin pipelines (fourth-generation products), such as engineered botulinum toxin proteins based on zinc finger protein delivery technology, AI-driven botulinum toxin modification, and new serotype recombinant botulinum toxins.

On October 21, XsellSmart announced the completion of a market-oriented financing round exceeding 100 million yuan for its B1 round. This round of financing will be used to enhance XsellSmart's clinical-grade iPS-derived cell therapy pipeline for neurological diseases, further advance clinical research, and promote multiple registration clinical trials.

Data shows that XsellSmart has long been dedicated to the application-oriented independent research and development and industrialization of iPS-derived cell therapies for neurological diseases. XsellSmart has independently designed and established a foundational technology platform, covering key technical platforms such as iPSC reprogramming and banking, gene editing of iPSCs, differentiation of iPSCs into subtype-specific neural cells, and the construction and evaluation of preclinical disease animal models.

On October 23, Wuhan Hongchen Innovation Biotechnology Co., Ltd. announced the completion of an angel round of financing worth tens of millions of RMB. Hongchen Bio is a company focused on the research and development of innovative stem cell drugs. Starting with induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC), the company is committed to providing stem cell therapy solutions for major diseases such as spinal cord injury, which currently lack substantial clinical solutions. Its core pipeline of iPSC differentiating into GABAergic neural precursor cells for treating spinal cord injury is expected to enter clinical trials in 2025.
