Maze Therapeutics Secures $115 Million Series D Financing to Advance Novel Small Molecule Precision Medicines for Kidney, Cardiovascular, and Metabolic Diseases

December 3,South of San Francisco, California, Maze Therapeutics, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company leveraging the power of human genetics to develop novel small-molecule precision medicines for patients with kidney, cardiovascular, and metabolic diseases, announced the completion of a $115 million Series D financing, which included the conversion of previously issued convertible notes purchased by existing investors. The Series D financing was co-led by investors Frazier Life Sciences and Deep Track Capital. Janus Henderson Investors and Logos Capital also participated. Existing investors include Third Rock Ventures, ARCH Venture Partners, Matrix Capital Management Partners, GV, General Catalyst, Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Foresite Capital, Woodline Partners LP, Castin Capital, Piper Heartland Healthcare Capital, Moore Strategic Ventures, and other leading existing healthcare investors. Third Rock Ventures launched Maze in 2019 with a $191 million investment, and prior to the Series D round, the biotech had raised over $400 million. Maze's last disclosed funding round of $190 million was in January 2022.This latest funding will support the advancement of Maze’s leading programs, MZE829 and MZE782. MZE829 is an oral APOL1 inhibitor being evaluated for the treatment of APOL1 kidney disease (AKD), including patients with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), with a Phase 2 trial expected to begin in the first quarter of 2025. MZE782 is an oral SLC6A19 inhibitor, which Maze is evaluating in a Phase 1 trial in healthy volunteers, with plans to develop it as a treatment for chronic kidney disease (CKD) and phenylketonuria (PKU). Data from the Phase 1 clinical trial is expected to be released in the second half of 2025.
