Nuowe Biosciences Secures New Funding Round to Advance Clinical Development of Proprietary Nucleic Acid Therapeutics

Recently, NEWISH received an investment from Future Industry (Wuxi) Angel Fund Partnership (Limited Partnership). The funds will be used to support the clinical advancement of the company's self-developed pipeline and the construction of an innovative platform.

NEWISH is a biopharmaceutical innovation company focused on gene therapy and other fields. With a unique commercial perspective, it emphasizes unmet clinical needs and continuously conducts "China-original" nucleic acid drug research with First-in-class characteristics and full independent intellectual property rights. Relying on the jointly developed STARi (Super Targeted Activation of T-cell Immune Response) nucleic acid drug development platform, the company is developing a new generation of therapeutic cancer vaccines.

Currently, the company is mainly focused on niche tracks with unmet clinical needs, such as precancerous cervical lesions and post-surgical recurrence of liver cancer. Several novel Class I drugs have entered the clinical development stage. Among them, NWRD06, a therapeutic DNA gene drug for liver cancer developed by NEWISH, received IND approval in May 2023 and is currently undergoing Phase I clinical trials at the Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Additionally, NWRD08, a therapeutic DNA gene drug for HPV, received IND approval in October 2023 and is currently in Phase I clinical trials at Peking Union Medical College Hospital.

The company's R&D team is led by Academician Jiang Jiandong and guided by authoritative experts from the National Medical Products Administration's Center for Drug Evaluation (CDE). The core technical leaders include Dr. Liu Defang and Dr. Qi Hailong, two "Science and Technology New Stars" talents of Beijing from Peking University. The team consists of more than ten high-caliber postdoctoral researchers and Ph.D. talents from prestigious universities such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Nankai University, University of Science and Technology of China, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, as well as senior industrialization professionals specializing in clinical medical registration. The company has obtained over 40 invention patents in fields like cell and gene therapy and tumor vaccines. It has published multiple SCI papers as the first or corresponding author institution and received significant special funding support from the Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission.
