At the signing ceremony, Wang Yong, Executive Vice President of Beijing Tiantan HospitalWang YilongIntroduction to the Goals and Main Tasks of the Clinical Research and Translation Platform for Rare Neurological Diseases. He stated that the current number of rare disease patients in China is about 20 million, with over 60% of rare diseases accompanied by nervous system damage. However, there is a severe shortage of doctors capable of diagnosing and treating neurological rare diseases, leading to the "dilemma" where "doctors who understand rare diseases are rarer than the patients themselves." To better address this challenge, Beijing Tiantan Hospital will collaborate with more than 60 experts in rare neurological diseases to develop standardized treatment protocols, create a series of standard diagnostic and treatment courses, conduct visits to model hospitals, organize multidisciplinary consultations, and illuminate the map of medical care for rare neurological diseases in China, ensuring patients receive timely treatment from doctors.
Novartis ChinaOphthalmologyWang Jia, head of transplantation and central nervous system treatment at Novartis, introduced the company's extensive R&D pipeline in rare neurological diseases and its strategic layout in the Chinese market. According to reports, Novartis has been deeply involved in the multiple sclerosis (MS) field for many years, and in the future, three DMT drugs will be launched globally. Innovative therapies expected to be launched within the next 5-10 years will cover areas such as neuroimmunology, degenerative diseases, and muscle diseases. In the future, the company will continue to focus on helping more patients maximize treatment benefits while ensuring long-term safe and effective disease control and management.
After the signing ceremony, the two parties took the first step in their strategic cooperation on neuroimmunological diseases: launching the Multiple Sclerosis Subspecialty Doctor Standard Diagnosis and Treatment Capability Enhancement Project (One Person, One City, One Doctor, or the "Triple-One Project"). Beijing Tiantan Hospital will join hands with Novartis to jointly promote the standardization of diagnosis and treatment for neuroimmunological diseases, train more doctors in China’s neuroimmunology field, and establish national and provincial centers together. Meanwhile, they will also promote the "One Person, One City, One Doctor" initiative in prefecture-level cities, helping more patients with rare diseases find the right hospital and the right doctor. It is reported that over the next three years, the two parties will promote the "Triple-One Project" to cover more than 300 prefecture-level regions across China.
