Novartis China Management Welcomes New Changes.


Yesterday, Novartis China announced via email:Xu Wei, currently the head of Novartis China's oncology therapeutic area for lung cancer and solid tumor portfolio, will assume the role of head of Novartis China's ophthalmology, transplant, and central nervous system therapeutic areas starting May 1, 2025, and will join the China management team of the International Business Unit.

Following last month's announcement of the appointment of the China management team for the International Business Unit, we are pleased to announce subsequent leadership appointments, continuing to provide growth and development opportunities for our talented and passionate employees, in line with Novartis' talent development principles.


We are very pleased to announce that Vivian Xu, currently the Head of Lung Cancer and Solid Tumor Portfolio in the Oncology Business Unit at Novartis China, will assume the role of Head of Ophthalmology, Transplantation, and Neuroscience Therapeutic Areas in China starting May 1, 2025. She will also join the China Management Team of the International Business Unit and report directly to me. Vivian will lead the Ophthalmology, Transplantation, and Neuroscience teams in China, driving business growth and continuing to deliver high-value innovative medicines and services to patients in China.


Xu Wei's career began in the ophthalmology treatment field at Novartis China in 2003. She subsequently accumulated extensive industry knowledge and management experience across various therapeutic areas in multiple multinational pharmaceutical companies. In her current role overseeing Novartis China’s lung cancer and solid tumor portfolio, Xu Wei has driven the rapid growth of Tafinlar and Mekinist by actively integrating resources and empowering her team. She also led the successful launch of Kymriah in China, establishing Novartis as a leader in the treatment of rare genetic targets. Additionally, Xu Wei has served as the head of Novartis China's rural market division and the Cosentyx market division. During her tenure with the Cosentyx market division, she led her team to build a leading brand reputation for Cosentyx by developing clear market strategies and implementing innovative integrated projects that provide comprehensive patient services.


Xu Wei has always maintained her original aspiration and firm belief in different job roles and complex environmental changes, leading her team to focus on execution, and committed to practicing our values and code of conduct to benefit more patients.Xu Wei will continue to serve as the interim head of the lung cancer field and solid tumor product portfolio during the transition period before the successor is announced.
