Nanjing Yuanmai Cell Biotechnology Secures Investment from Nanjing University Tech Transfer Angel Fund to Advance In Vivo Gene-Edited Macrophage Therapies

April 14, 2025The Investment Decision Committee of the Nanjing University Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Angel Fund and the Nanjing Future Industry Angel Fund has reviewed and approved the investment project of Nanjing Yuanmai Cell Biotechnology Co., Ltd.(hereinafter referred to as the Company or Yuanmai Cell), which will complete the signing of the investment agreement in the near future. This investment marks the official launch of the Nanjing University Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Angel Fund, with the Nanjing Future Industry Angel Fund gaining further momentum.

Yuanmai Cell is registered in Jiangbei New Area, Nanjing City, and was jointly established by the research team of Shen Pingping from Nanjing University and senior pharmaceutical executives.

Yuanmai Cell focuses on developing treatment technologies for fibrotic diseases and solid tumors, committed to addressing unmet clinical needs. It has currently established four core technology platforms with independent intellectual property rights: a high-throughput screening system for anti-fibrotic payloads, a CAR functional module library, an in vitro gene editing system, and an in vivo gene editing delivery system. Through in vivo gene editing delivery technology, Yuanmai Cell advances the engineering transformation of macrophages from ex vivo transfection to in vivo editing, achieving an era leap from cell therapy to biopharmaceuticals. Its project targeting liver fibrosis diseases is already conducting investigator-initiated clinical trials.（IIT）。

Professor Shen Pingping, the scientific founder of the company, was selected for the Ministry of Education's "New Century Excellent Talents Support Program." She is currently a professor at the School of Life Sciences, Nanjing University, and serves as the Principal Investigator (PI) at the Drum Tower Hospital Research Center of the State Key Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology.(Chief Researcher)Under the leadership of Professor Shen, his research team has achieved remarkable results in recent years, receiving multiple funding awards such as the National Key R&D Program, the Innovative Research Team of the National Natural Science Foundation Commission (NSFC), the NSFC Major Research Program, the New Century Excellent Talents Support Program by the Ministry of Education, and the Jiangsu Province Frontier Technology Major Project. As the first contributor, Professor Shen was also awarded the 2014 Jiangsu Province Science and Technology First Prize and the "Outstanding Achievement Award" at the 12th World Congress on Advances in Oncology, among other honors. Professor Shen's team has long been committed to the research of "Macrophage Immune Regulation and Related Immunotherapy Technologies," achieving a series of original results.
