Myopia in children and adolescents has become a global public health issue, with the myopia rate among Chinese children and adolescents being at a high level globally.

Professor Bao Jinhua from the Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University Shares 6-Year Clinical Trial Results

During the 25th Shanghai International Conference and Exhibition on Ophthalmology and Optometry Technology and Equipment (COOC), the 6-year clinical trial results of highly aspherical micro-lens (HAL) designed myopia control lenses were released.

The "Prospective Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial on Myopia Control Lenses with High Aspheric Microlens Design Over a 6-Year Period" conducted by Professor Bao Jinhua's team from the Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University shows that, compared with single-vision lenses, wearing high aspheric microlens spectacle frames continuously for six years slows myopia progression by an average of 1.95D and reduces axial elongation by an average of 0.81 millimeters.

Essilor stated that, in order to better help address the current situation and challenges of myopia prevention and control in China, Essilor's Stellest has always been committed to safeguarding the visual health of Chinese children and adolescents through scientifically innovative myopia management solutions and solid clinical trials.

Essilor Stellest, a myopia management brand for children and adolescents that adopts advanced highly aspherical microlens technology, adheres to the brand concept of "Synergistic Control and Prevention, Efficient Youth Myopia Control." In collaboration with industry experts, it actively promotes the "advancement of myopia prevention" efforts and a tiered hyperopia reserve management strategy. It strengthens the standardization and normalization of myopia control processes and is committed to enhancing public awareness of eye health by providing scientific myopia management solutions to slow the progression of myopia.

Myopia Control is Important, and Comprehensive Myopia Management Should Not Be Overlooked

Hyperopia reserve is a simple and effective indicator for predicting myopia. Regular examination of hyperopia reserve helps parents detect problems earlier and intervene in time. During the exhibition, Professor Li Shiming from Beijing Tongren Hospital, Capital Medical University, called for attention to the application of hyperopia reserve. Implementing hierarchical management based on different reference values of hyperopia reserve contributes to achieving more precise and efficient myopia management.

Professor Li Shiming stated: "For children and adolescents who have not developed myopia, targeted differentiated management and intervention measures should be implemented based on different levels of hyperopia reserve (sufficient, relatively insufficient, pre-myopia stage). In addition, sufficient outdoor activities can effectively reduce the incidence of myopia, and wearing appropriate plano high aspherical microlens technology glasses is also an important measure for myopia prevention and intervention."

The effect of Essilor Stellest plano lenses, which adopt highly aspherical micro-lens technology, on slowing down axial elongation has been supported by multiple data sources. Last year, Professor Chen Zhi and his team from the Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat Hospital of Fudan University released the latest clinical study on lenses based on highly aspherical micro-lens technology. The study results indicate that for children with low-degree hyperopia reserve, wearing Essilor Stellest plano lenses for an average of over 30 hours per week can slow down axial elongation.

Essilor Stellest will continue to respond to the call of the state, cooperate with industry experts and ecosystem partners to promote consensus on eye health. It will cultivate awareness of myopia prevention based on hyperopia reserve from an early age, and appeal to parents to take their children for regular vision screening and develop good daily eye-use habits. In the future, Essilor Stellest will continuously optimize myopia management solutions to meet consumers' personalized needs, using earlier intervention and more comprehensive myopia management plans to protect the vision health of children and adolescents.
