Professor Quan Dong Nguyen is currently a Professor of Ophthalmology at the Byers Eye Institute, Stanford University School of Medicine, and also serves as a Professor of Pediatrics and a Professor of Medicine (Immunology and Rheumatology) at the same institution.
Professor Quan Dong Nguyen is the principal investigator of multiple clinical trials funded by institutions such as the National Eye Institute, primarily focusing on (diabetic and uveitic) macular edema, neovascularizationAge-related Macular Degeneration(AMD) and other diseases such as ocular inflammation and uveitis; meanwhile, he also serves as a co-investigator in multiple clinical trials involving novel therapeutic drugs. He has expertise in retinal vascular diseases andUveitisKnown for innovative work in early proof-of-concept and first-in-human clinical trials — as one of the world's first clinical scientists, he led the evaluation ofAfliberceptThe preliminary results of studies on the efficacy of aflibercept and ranibizumab for neovascular AMD and diabetic macular edema (DME) laid the groundwork for subsequent trials, ultimately leading to the approval of these drugs by the US FDA and other regulatory agencies for the treatment of related conditions. In addition, he led the US multicenter READ-2, READ-3, and iDEAL studies, exploring the potential of VEGF antagonists in treating diabetic macular edema through different mechanisms of action.
Professor Quan Dong Nguyen also led the SAVE study and multicenter studies such as SAVE-2, STOP-UVEITIS, ACTHAR, and LEOPARD, evaluating the application value of novel drugs, including specific interleukin inhibitors, in uveitis and ocular inflammatory diseases.
