In 2016, the Ministry of Science and Technology launched the Disruptive Technology Innovation Program. In May this year, the gene therapy project of Liu Lanxia's team from the Institute of Medical Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences was selected. The team established Invik BioTech (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., which officially settled in Tiankai Park on the 31st.
Internationally, the treatment of leukemia mainly involves extracting the patient's blood, processing it with gene drugs, and then transfusing it back into the body, which is risky and expensive. After more than a decade of research, the team led by Liu Lanxia from the Institute of Medical Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences has eliminated the need for these complex procedures. The newly developed gene drug can be directly injected into the body to precisely target diseased cells.
Located in the Tiankai Huayuan Park, Juventas, whose existing gene therapy drug has been on the market for two years, is highly optimistic about the new technology developed by Liu Lanxia's team and is actively working on its transformation. Meanwhile, Liu Lanxia's team needs to establish a company to complete the technology transfer with Juventas. However, as scientists, market transactions are not their strong suit. During outreach efforts to central-level research institutes based in Tianjin, Tiankai Park learned about this situation. Within two months, they helped Liu Lanxia’s team complete business registration, officially settling in Tiankai Park today. The cooperation agreement with Juventas was also promptly signed.
Tiankaiyuan is also helping companies in the field of cirrhosis treatment to further transform this achievement. Currently, the pilot test has been completed. Tiankaiyuan is also connecting with banks, funds, and other institutions to help companies address financing needs and accelerate the drug's market launch.
