In March 2025, a hard-tech company targeting the clinical transformation of brain-computer interfaces, Neuraic, was born in Hangzhou Future Sci-Tech City. Just two months later, this startup led by Dr. Huidong Gu secured tens of millions in angel funding: Enran Venture Capital led the investment, with participation from Hangzhou Runmiao Fund and Westlake Photonics, and additional investment from Shanghai Angel Association.

Behind the capital rush lies a sufficiently hardcore technological moat. Neuraic has industrialized two decades of technical accumulation from the Semiconductor Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, breaking through two major challenges in the invasive brain-computer interface field — excessive trauma caused by flexible electrode implantation and rapid signal decay within a short period. Its self-developed world's first semiconductor hollow flexible electrode, combined with an innovative "saline rigidity adjustment" process and a 13-micron minimally invasive implantation pathway, has achieved two breakthroughs in animal models: a 70% reduction in acute damage and stable neural signals for six months.

Clinical translation channels are being rolled out simultaneously. The company has established partnerships with five of the top tertiary hospitals in China, initially targeting severe facial paralysis as the primary indication. Estimates suggest that the potential size of this patient population in China is approximately 240,000 individuals. Focused on neural repair treatments, Neuraic is accelerating the construction of its patent portfolio to pave the way for subsequent medical device registration and commercialization.

This round of financing will mainly be invested in the iteration of the closed-loop brain-computer interface system, innovation in 5D acquisition technology, optimization of intelligent neural encoding and decoding algorithms, and the expansion of more clinical indications, fully promoting invasive brain-computer interface 3.0 technology from the laboratory to the bedside.

Lead investor Ennovation Venture Capital was founded in 2015 and has long been exploring revolutionary technologies and products in the global biopharmaceutical and healthcare industry chain. Its management team combines investment experience with industry resources in the life sciences field, focusing on the commercial value at the intersection of "life, health, and innovation." Ennovation Venture Capital commented that invasive brain-computer interfaces are pushing the boundaries of traditional medicine, unleashing tremendous potential in scenarios such as neurological disease diagnosis and treatment and human-computer interaction; Neuraic, with a focus on clinical value, has a pragmatic and enterprising team, and is expected to grow into an industry leader with global core competitiveness.

The identity of the co-investment fund, Runmiao Fund, is also noteworthy. This policy-oriented special fund, initiated and led by Hangzhou City, has a first-phase scale of 2 billion yuan and a duration of up to 20 years, jointly managed by Hangzhou Capital and the city's Sci-Tech Innovation Group. Its investment strategy precisely targets "early-stage, small-scale, hard technology, and long-term talent projects," with a focus on cutting-edge sectors such as artificial intelligence, high-end manufacturing, biomedicine, and new materials that align with Hangzhou’s "296X" industrial system. It specifically channels long-term capital to hard-tech startups that are newly established, have compact teams, and are at the Series A round or earlier stages. Neuraic, which was founded just two months ago, boasts a young and capable team and possesses deep technological barriers, perfectly fitting this investment logic.

The founder, Huidong Gu, is a leading talent recognized by Hangzhou City. He graduated with his bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Engineering Physics at Tsinghua University, after which he went to the Washington University School of Medicine in the United States for postdoctoral research in image-guided interventional surgery and gene therapy. On the industry side, he has over two decades of experience in the medical device field, with a career spanning giants such as GE, Philips, and Neusoft, both domestically and internationally. He has also served as the CTO of a medical surgical robotics company, where he was fully responsible for quality management, production operations, multi-product line and platform-based software and hardware R&D, regulatory registration, and product commercialization. Today, he is leading a team that brings together top brain-computer interface scientists, clinical experts, and industrial transformation talents from around the world, striving towards the goal of becoming a global leader in neuromodulation.

Regarding this round of financing, Huaidong Gu said: "Brain-computer interface is a strategic highland of global cutting-edge technology, and invasive BCI is a core track in precision medicine, with urgent clinical needs and broad industrial prospects. The completion of this angel round of financing not only represents the capital market's high recognition of Neuraic's technological innovation, team strength, and clinical value but also injects strong momentum into the company’s technical iteration and acceleration of commercialization."

Neuraic takes "technical feasibility, clinical feasibility, and market feasibility" as the starting point for product design, continuously advancing in invasive brain-computer interface technology. Its ultimate vision is to help patients regain the ability to live independently through closed-loop intelligent brain-computer interface 3.0 technology—curing diseases, enhancing functions, surpassing limits, and enabling all humanity to live healthily and happily.
