BeijingMay 25, 2026PR Newswire -- The skin is the largest organ of the human body and an intuitive名片 for people to participate in social life. For China's nearly 7 million psoriasis patients, skin problems are more than just physiological困扰; they represent a real test of overcoming prejudice and discrimination to争取公平的发展机会.

To understand the issues and needs of psoriasis patients in their academic and career development, the "Insight Survey on Career Development of Psoriasis Patients," initiated by the Psoriasis Patient Mutual Aid Network, supported by Johnson & Johnson Innovative Pharmaceuticals, and media-supported by the People's Livelihood Weekly Magazine, has officially launched recently. As the first special survey in China focusing on the academic and career development of psoriasis patients, this survey will reveal the career development challenges faced by psoriasis patients through extensive questionnaire collection and data analysis, promoting the whole society to break down entrenched prejudices and support psoriasis patients in bravely pursuing self-actualization.

Visible Skin Lesions, Invisible Career Development Dilemmas

Psoriasis is a chronic, recurrent, inflammatory, and systemic disease mediated by immunity, triggered by the interaction of genetics and environment. Clinically, it presents as scaly erythema or plaques, with localized or widespread distribution.[1]Psoriasis is not contagious, but due to visible erythema or scales, patients are often treated differently in social interactions and consequently bear heavy physical and mental pressures. According to the "Global Report on Psoriasis" released by the World Health Organization (WHO), psoriasis reduces patients' quality of life and causes psychological stress. Patients often face discrimination because of the disease and are excluded from normal social environments such as schools and workplaces.[2]

In terms of age of onset, psoriasis is highly prevalent among young and middle-aged adults, with approximately two-thirds of patients developing the condition before the age of 40.[1]This means that patients may be profoundly affected during critical life stages such as education and employment due to external biases and implicit discrimination stemming from skin lesions, as well as their own psychological anxiety and social avoidance, restricting the realization of their self-worth. Therefore, psoriasis affects not only the skin but potentially the patient's entire life.

In recent years, with the advancement of medicine and the clinical application of innovative treatment methods, patients can achieve complete or almost complete clearance of skin lesions (PASI100 or PASI90) by using appropriate biologics early and managing the disease over the long term, thereby effectively controlling the condition. However, while curing physical skin lesions, the academic and career development issues of psoriasis patients, which relate to their dignity, economic independence, and quality of life, still need further attention and resolution from society. "Insights into Career Development for Psoriasis Patients" starts from this profound insight, aiming to deeply understand the actual difficulties and core demands of psoriasis patients in their academic and career development, using objective data to reveal the deep impact of psoriasis on patients' life development.

Listen to the Voices of the Community, Empower a Silver-Free Life Together

From Campus to Workplace: Many psoriasis patients may have deviated, either passively or actively, from their ideal life trajectory. As a result, they look forward to having their abilities recognized and being offered the same educational and employment opportunities as healthy individuals. To this end, the "Insight Survey on Career Development of Psoriasis Patients" will be widely conducted among the psoriasis patient community through online questionnaires to carry out multi-dimensional research. The survey aims to explore the actual impact of psoriasis on patients' education and employment, understand the level of psychological stress experienced by patients in academic and workplace settings, and examine the role of standardized treatment and long-term disease management in improving patients’ academic and career development. Additionally, it focuses on the core needs of patients regarding personal growth and social integration.

Notably, against the backdrop of China emphasizing the promotion of high-quality and full employment, as well as continuously advancing career education and employment guidance, this survey focuses on the academic and career development of psoriasis patients and calls for fair employment opportunities for this group, which is a positive response to this policy direction. The findings of the survey are expected to inspire deeper understanding and action from all sectors of society, unite multi-party efforts, and build a fairer environment for psoriasis patients in terms of education and employment.

This survey isJohnson & Johnson's "No Silver Here"公益项目: Another significant initiative exploring diverse science popularization and patient care formats. With nearly 20 years of dedication to the field of immunological diseases in China, Johnson & Johnson's innovative pharmaceuticals division focuses on unmet patient needs beyond treatment. In 2024, it officially launched the "No Silver Here"公益项目, collaborating with multiple parties to support fair academic and career development for psoriasis patients. As the questionnaire is widely distributed, this research will also integrate data and produce an insights report to support policy advocacy and corporate inclusive culture building, helping more psoriasis patients embrace a life free from prejudice and not defined by their condition.
