【Pharmaceutical Network Industry DynamicsIn recent years, many Chinese pharmaceutical companies have been accelerating their integration into the global innovation network by establishing R&D headquarters or hubs. It is reported that since 2025, several enterprises, including Qilu Pharmaceutical and CHIATAI TIANQING, have witnessed significant progress such as the commencement or launch of their R&D projects.
Recently, the groundbreaking ceremony for Qilu Pharmaceutical's Global R&D Headquarters for Innovative Drugs was held in Zhangjiang Science City. The project focuses on key therapeutic areas such as oncology, autoimmune diseases, metabolic disorders, and neurological diseases. It plans to establish core innovative technology platforms including precise design of small molecule drugs, monoclonal antibodies/bispecific antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), and small interfering RNA (siRNA).
Public information shows that Qilu Pharmaceutical Group is a large-scale comprehensive modern pharmaceutical enterprise in China, with businesses covering three major sectors: life health, animal health, and plant protection. After the completion of this project, it is expected to help the company connect with global innovative resources, make a push into the international high-end pharmaceutical market, and become a leading enterprise in innovative drugs.
December News: The new global R&D headquarters project of Chia Tai Tianqing Pharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd. has entered the final stage. Since its official commencement in April 2023 at the Hongqiao Qianwan area, the main structure of the project was topped off in January 2025. By July, the overall progress exceeded 80%, with full completion and commissioning expected in the first half of 2026.
The global R&D headquarters project plans to build four cutting-edge R&D laboratories and five core innovation technology platforms, with a focus on frontier fields such as bispecific antibody drugs and site-specific and quantitatively controlled antibody-drug conjugates. Once completed, it will become an international hub platform that gathers top global scientific research resources, drives the transformation of cutting-edge technologies, and incubates groundbreaking innovative drugs.
In October, the construction project of Harbour BioMed's Beijing Innovation Center was officially approved. This project, jointly developed by Harbour BioMed and AstraZeneca, covers a construction area of approximately 1,835 square meters, with a total investment of 42 million yuan.
The main construction content of the project includes laboratory decoration, equipment procurement, and the establishment of Harbour BioMed's innovative antibody drug development platform. This platform will not only be used for the discovery and development of differentiated therapeutic drugs within the company and to advance the clinical pipeline, but will also be open for use by global biopharmaceutical companies, facilitating the innovative transformation of cutting-edge scientific achievements from concept to clinical application. At the same time, it will also help Harbour BioMed transition from a research and development-oriented Biotech to a platform-based pharmaceutical enterprise that is deeply integrated with the global pharmaceutical ecosystem.
In April, the Tianjin Hengrui Innovative Drug Industrialization Base project commenced construction in the Bonded Area. The project includes a research and development building, production workshops, an administrative center, and related supporting facilities, with a focus on major disease areas such as cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and cardiovascular conditions. It will establish production lines for innovative cancer drugs, freeze-dried preparations, and injectable solutions.
The project is expected to be completed in 2027, at which time it will achieve independent domestic production of radionuclide diagnosis and treatment integrated drugs, becoming an international innovative drug platform that integrates R&D, production, and distribution, injecting new momentum into the development of the biomedicine industry in the New Area.
Overall, many leading pharmaceutical companies in China are currently stepping up their global research and development of innovative drugs by building new R&D headquarters, co-developing platforms, and engaging in global strategic licensing. In the future, these companies will continue to focus on cutting-edge technologies and the implementation of global pipelines, helping China's pharmaceutical industry accelerate its high-quality transformation and upgrade, while also driving the rapid globalization of China's innovative achievements.
