Recently, Shenzhen Certainn Technology Co., Ltd. (referred to as "Moptim") announced the completion of a nearly 100-million-yuan Series B financing round. This round of financing was led by China Venture Capital Co., Ltd., with existing shareholders Guoke Investment and BV Baidu Ventures making additional oversubscribed investments. It is reported that the funds from this round will be used for the iteration of underlying optical core technologies, the expansion of high-end manufacturing capacity, the upgrade of AI algorithms, and the comprehensive promotion of product scale implementation in grassroots healthcare in China and the global market. The groundbreaking journey of Chinese-produced OCT from 0 to 1.
Back to 20 years ago, OCT, as a high-end ophthalmic imaging technology, had extremely high diagnostic value for fundus diseases. However, the Chinese market completely relied on imports, which were very expensive. With the original intention of "breaking the monopoly and enabling more patients to use domestically produced high-end ophthalmic equipment," Moptim's founder, Mr. Wang Hui, embarked on the industrialization path of domestically produced OCT.
In 2003, Moptim was established, and the team entered the Optical Laboratory of Tsinghua University Shenzhen Graduate School under the guidance of Academician Wang Daheng, a leading figure in optics. Relying on the profound technical accumulation of Tsinghua's physics laboratory, they focused on the independent research and development of high-end ophthalmic imaging equipment.
The core R&D team of the company is mainly composed of postdoctoral fellows from the United States and experts from Tsinghua University, with an annual R&D investment reaching 24%. As the first company in China and the third globally to industrialize ophthalmic OCT, Moptim focuses on three core细分 areas: ophthalmic diagnosis, ophthalmic surgery, and refraction detection. Additionally, it obtained the first OCT registration certificate for a Chinese-produced product, breaking international technological封锁 and becoming the first approved ophthalmic OCT company in China.Medical DeviceEnterprise, filling the gap in China's domestically produced OCT market.
In addition, the company also adheres to the full-chain independent control of optoelectronic and mechanical core components and algorithm software, taking the lead in achieving the scaled industrialization of domestically produced ophthalmic OCT, solving the industry pain points of high prices and difficult popularization of high-end equipment through fundamental innovation.

Currently, Moptim has built a complete high-end ophthalmic device industry ecosystem, promoting the deep integration of optical technology and AI. It has jointly established an underlying algorithm system with Southern University of Science and Technology, led participation in major national science and technology projects, and upgraded from ophthalmic screening to a cross-disciplinary early screening platform for chronic diseases. Moptim provides digital and intelligent solutions for county-level medical consortiums, grassroots public health, and central nervous system health management.
Relying on independent innovation and large-scale manufacturing capabilities, Moptim series equipment has been stably operating in thousands of medical institutions worldwide, enabling expert-level diagnosis and treatment to reach county-level, community, and grassroots frontlines. As a key national specialized and innovative "little giant" enterprise, the company owns 179 authorized patents (including 11 PCT patents) and software copyrights. Its core products are exported to more than 50 countries and regions globally, covering over 8,000 medical institutions, with a market share of over 35% in China, earning it the reputation of being "China's Zeiss."
Notably, in Moptim's few financing rounds, the investors have been quite prominent.
In January 2021, the company completed its Series A financing round, with the investor being Guoke Ruihua, a subsidiary of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In March 2022, BV Baidu Ventures exclusively invested tens of millions of yuan in the Series A+ round to expand the product line and promote market outreach. Sanya Baichuan Zhixin, a Baidu-affiliated company, holds a 2.439% stake, while Guoke Ruihua has become the largest institutional shareholder with a 10.061% stake.
Moreover, as early as 2019, Baidu had included medical devices in its business scope; in 2022, Baidu Ventures focused its investments on AI healthcare and medical equipment, with Moptim being one of the eight healthcare companies it invested in. After securing funding, Moptim became one of the first ecosystem partners of Baidu's Wenxin Yiyan, implementing conversational language model technology in ophthalmic medical scenarios in China. Clearly, this continued investment by Baidu Ventures also represents full recognition of Moptim’s implementation of AI technology, commercialization progress, and potential for global expansion.
It is reported that after this round of financing, Moptim will focus on three major directions.
1. Tackle core technologies, continuously enhance high-resolution, high-speed scanning, and AI-assisted analysis capabilities to consolidate independent barriers; 2. Expand high-end intelligent manufacturing, strengthen the stability and delivery capacity of the global supply chain, while supporting growth in both grassroots markets in China and overseas markets; 3. Accelerate globalization efforts, improve domestic and international channels and technical service systems, and build a clinical support and market network covering the globe.
