GPG and Huawei Announce Strategic Collaboration on AI-Driven Drug Discovery Platform

Recently, Chen Jiehui, Deputy Chairman and General Manager of Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited, led a team to the Huawei Guangdong Regional Headquarters, where they held discussions with Liu Chao, Vice President of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. and President of the Manufacturing and Large Enterprises Group.

The two parties then signed an AI pharmaceutical ecosystem cooperation agreement. The signatories were not directly Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited, but rather Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Digital Intelligence Technology Co., Ltd. (GPDI), the sole carrier of Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Group's digital and intelligent transformation, along with Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. and its ecosystem partners.

According to the agreement, the two parties will integrate their core advantages in pharmaceutical R&D scenarios, computing power infrastructure, and AI drug design to jointly build an independent and innovative AI drug design platform. The platform will cover the entire drug R&D chain, with a focus on accelerating exploration in key areas such as target discovery, molecular design, virtual screening, clinical research, and registration submission.

Wang Zheng, Vice President of Huawei Pharmaceutical Team, revealed that the Guangzhou Pharmaceutical AI Drug Discovery Joint Innovation Project has successfully completed the POC (Proof of Concept) test, with results exceeding expectations. This is the first time in the industry that an independently innovated AI drug discovery model has been adapted and production-validated with the Ascend and Kunpeng technologies. Through targeted adaptation and optimization, the AI drug discovery model based on Ascend computing power achieved a 1.08 times efficiency improvement over industry standards in practical tests generating 320 molecules per round.

In addition to Huawei and Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings Limited, other ecosystem partners such as StoneWise, Chinasoft International, and Gientech will also participate in this collaboration. StoneWise will provide AI small molecule drug research technical support, Chinasoft International will be responsible for intelligent document generation and quality inspection, and Gientech will focus on the field of medical translation.
