Medtronic Unveils Next-Gen AI Endoscopy Software ColonPRO™ to Transform Colorectal Cancer Screening

GI Genius™ Intelligent Endoscopy Module

GI Genius is an intelligent endoscopy system and also the first commercial computer-aided detection (CADe) system.It is an AI-driven computer-aided polyp detection system. Reportedly, this product is the first device on the market to use AI technology to help clinicians detect colon lesions of different shapes, sizes, and forms in real time.This product can identify laboratory-confirmed adenomas or cancers in 55% of patients, whereas only 2% of patients using standard colonoscopy can identify these conditions, with an observed difference of 13%.The product has the following advantages:：

Database Support:GI Genius's training relies onIt is an endoscopic image library built by Cosmo Intelligent Medical Devices (a device development company that has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Medtronic), which contains data from 20 centers.13 Million Polyp Images, Detection Sensitivity Reaches 99.7%, False Positive Rate Below 1%。

Using this system increases the likelihood of detecting multiple polyps by 50%, the probability of finding distal colon polyps by 53%, and the chance of identifying proximal colon polyps by 28%.

For every 1% increase in ADR, the risk of colorectal cancer decreases by 3%.

For flat lesions and polypoid lesions, the use of the GI Genius module has proven to increase ADR by an absolute 14% compared to colonoscopy alone, improving accuracy and reducing the risk of interval cancers that may occur between colonoscopies.

The FDA granted de novo clearance to the GI Genius system in April 2021. The system also received CE certification in Europe and is commercially available in parts of Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.
