From July 19 to 21, 2024, the 12th Academic Conference on Respiratory Endoscopy and Interventional Pulmonology of the Chinese Medical Association was grandly held in Wuhan. As an important academic exchange event in the field of respiratory medicine in China, the conference showcased the latest research achievements and clinical application advancements in respiratory endoscopy technology and interventional pulmonology.

At this academic conference, participants engaged in in-depth discussions on a variety of topics, including but not limited to: early diagnosis and minimally invasive endoscopic treatment of pulmonary malignancies, new strategies for endoscopic treatment of bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), endoscopic diagnosis and management of pulmonary infectious diseases, management of benign airway stenosis, diagnosis and treatment of pleural diseases, and the application of pediatric respiratory endoscopy techniques. Through paper presentations, case sharing, hands-on demonstrations, and technical training, the dissemination and enhancement of professional knowledge and skills were promoted. Additionally, authoritative experts from the field of respiratory medicine in China and abroad were invited to attend. They not only shared advanced international medical experiences but also provided insights into the development of this specialty in China, contributing to the advancement of domestic disciplines and international cooperation.
Meeting Highlights
Lung cancer is a malignant tumor that poses a serious threat to the lives and health of the Chinese people. Although treatment has made progress in recent years, late-stage diagnosis remains very common, leading to missed optimal surgical opportunities. Early detection significantly improves survival rates, making the promotion of early screening and precise diagnosis crucial. Early treatment within the airways has gained attention due to minimal invasiveness and rapid recovery, but technical challenges and complication risks make diagnosis and treatment difficult. Due to numerous clinical pain points in the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary nodules, bronchoscopy robots, as the most cutting-edge new technology in the field of pulmonary intervention, have become the highly anticipated focus of this conference.

Johnson & Johnson's MONARCH Natural Orifice Diagnosis and Treatment Robot, as a technological leader, also participated in this conference.During the live broadcast of the Equipment Home roving exhibition, the Johnson & Johnson MONARCH robotic platform booth attracted significant attention. Numerous experts gathered in the exhibition area to personally experience the robot's operational details, understand its technical advantages, and explore its clinical application outcomes.
Monarch, as the world's only transnatural orifice diagnostic and therapeutic robot supporting multiple disciplines, has received approval in the United States for indications related to transbronchial and transurethral procedures. It is also the first bronchoscopy robot approved for use in China. In the field of diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary nodules and early-stage lung cancer, it has demonstrated significant innovative advantages. The following innovations were highlighted at the MONARCH booth:
Total Lung Lesions Reached:The unique double-sheath design allows for smooth navigation through difficult angles, easily reaching the upper lobe of the lung, as far as the 11th generation bronchi and near-pleural lesions, offering a wide range of access.
Full-process visualization:No "blind insertion," no need for repeated pushing and pulling of the lens, treatment can be performed under direct visualization, enhancing surgical safety; with optical navigation, it is more real-time and accurate.
Stable Support:The endoscope advances along the center of the airway, reducing pressure on the bronchial wall and minimizing terminal displacement.

With the successful conclusion of the 12th Chinese Medical Association Conference on Respiratory Endoscopy and Interventional Pulmonology, it is hoped that more experts and medical device manufacturers will utilize their professional knowledge and technology to drive new advancements in the fields of respiratory endoscopy and interventional pulmonology, contributing to the global healthcare industry.
