At the annual Association for Diagnostics and Laboratory Medicine (ADLM) conference held in Chicago, multiple companies showcased their latest medical testing technologies.
Nate Patton, Vice President of Roche's Near-Patient Care Market, mentioned that the company’s PCR-based Cobas Liat platform is seeing increased usage in primary care, urgent care, and emergency facilities. The platform provides test results within 20 minutes, helping to deliver answers during a patient's visit and begin treatment immediately.
The test menu for the Cobas Liat platform includes COVID-19, Group A Streptococcus, as well as tests that differentiate between COVID-19, Influenza A/B, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus.
Roche also plans to launch the Cobas Liat STD multiplex assay in early 2025.

Sharon Bracken, Head of Diagnostics at Siemens Healthineers, stated that healthcare providers in North America and other developed markets are turning to the company's POCT technology to reduce result times and enhance ease of use.
In global developing markets, government health authorities more often seek tools to expand testing coverage in remote areas.
Spencer Hunt, Product Manager for BioMérieux's Molecular Respiratory Testing Business, mentioned that the company utilizes its laboratory-grade PCR technology to provide timely and actionable information through the SpotFire analyzer in emergency rooms and doctors' offices.
The company launched a multiplex PCR sample-to-answer instrument for POCT last year, which has received FDA approval and CLIA waiver.
Dwight Egan, CEO of Co-Diagnostics, believes that infectious disease testing currently performed in laboratories will inevitably shift to decentralized locations such as pharmacies, doctor's offices, dental clinics, community health centers, schools, and skilled nursing facilities.
The company aims to meet this demand and bring molecular testing to Indian communities currently relying on older, more time-consuming detection technologies using its POCT instruments.
Amaru Araya-Williams, Director of Mechanical Engineering at the British start-up LEX Diagnostics, stated that the company will begin clinical studies on its ultra-rapid PCR platform and breath panel tests to support dual submissions for FDA 510(k) clearance and CLIA waiver.
The company's combined test for Influenza A/B and SARS-CoV-2 provides positive results within 5 minutes and negative results within 10 minutes.
Dan Yeager, Senior Sales Consultant at Werfen, promoted the company's Gem Premier 7000 platform and iQM 3 blood gas testing, a system that enhances POCT hemolysis detection capabilities.

Todd Kelley, Vice President of Medical Affairs at Polymedco, mentioned that the company's high-sensitivity troponin POCT allows clinicians to quickly identify whether chest pain patients are experiencing a heart attack, with results available within 17 minutes.

Jonathan O'Halloran, CEO of QuantuMDx, stated that the company is developing version 2.0 of its CE-IVD marked Q-POC POCT PCR device, which will integrate high-throughput multiplexing capabilities, enabling it to compete with BioMérieux’s BioFire business and Qiagen’s POCT products.
The company plans to conduct clinical studies this year and submit a 510(k) application for FDA approval in early 2025, with the goal of launching a test that uses fingertip blood samples to monitor tuberculosis later next year.
