On August 30, 2024, AstraZeneca registered two Phase 2b clinical trials for the small molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist AZD5004 on the Clinicaltrials.gov website, for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity, respectively.


The Phase 2b clinical trial for obesity plans to enroll 285 patients and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. The Phase 2b clinical trial for type 2 diabetes plans to enroll 384 patients and is also expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
