The General Administration of Customs of China only permits overseas manufacturers, who have been assessed, reviewed, and registered by the administration, to export fetal bovine serum to China. In addition to the quality assurance of the origin and cattle sources, intermediate links such as inspection and quarantine supervision, production processes, and cold chain transportation cannot be overlooked. Currently, both foreign and Chinese serum production standards require that no exogenous components be added. A certain U.S. brand once added a large number of cytokines and growth factors to its serum, causing extremely rapid cell growth, but leading to serious issues in cell functionality experiments. This brand has been banned by the U.S., but similar situations still exist in fetal bovine serum obtained through unofficial channels.

Therefore, a complete Certificate of Origin, quality inspection report, proof from the exporting country's Ministry of Agriculture, and customs import-export qualifications are required to ensure the product is safe and traceable throughout the entire process, avoiding situations of "passing off fake goods as genuine."
