Arsenal Biosciences (ArsenalBio) recently announced the completion of a $325 million Series C financing round. The funds raised will be used to advance the development of ArsenalBio's core projects. The company will continue to build a pipeline of cancer treatments based on its proprietary T-cell engineering technology. The funds will also be used to drive innovation and develop tools for discovering new cell therapies.
ArsenalBio aims to reprogram T cells using CRISPR-based gene editing to enhance their anti-cancer activity while reducing potential toxicity. The company's technology platform, named CITE, is based on CRISPR gene editing. It precisely inserts the necessary components for genetic engineering into a specific location on chromosome 11 of T cells, thereby reducing the risk of mutations potentially caused by random insertions mediated by viral vectors.ArsenalBio's reprogramming of T cells includes the introduction of logic gate components, which enable the generated CAR-T cells to activate only when they recognize two different proteins expressed on the surface of tumor cells, further enhancing the specificity of T cell therapy. Additionally,The company's technology platform can also introduce various components to overcome the tumor microenvironment, enhance cell persistence, and boost tumor inflammatory responses, thereby increasing the efficacy and durability of T-cell therapy.

ArsenalBio's R&D pipeline includes therapies under investigation for the treatment of ovarian cancer, renal cancer, and prostate cancer. Among them, the investigational therapy AB-2100 for the treatment of clear cell renal cell carcinoma has recently completed the dosing of the first patient in a Phase 1/2 clinical trial. This therapy has been granted Fast Track designation by the U.S. FDA.
