【Pharmaceutical Network Industry DynamicsAccording to the review, last week (September 2nd to September 8th), at least eight biopharmaceutical companies worldwide dedicated to innovative drug research and development announced the completion of a new round of financing. Among them were two Chinese companies: Hygieia Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd. and CGeneTech.
Data shows that Hygieia is a company focused on the small interfering RNA field, dedicated to developing innovative drugs for major diseases using novel delivery platforms. On September 3, Hygieia Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd. announced the completion of its A2 round of financing worth tens of millions of RMB, led by Huangpu Biomedical Industry Fund with Nanwan Biofund participating.
According to reports, Hygieia Bio's A+ round of financing is currently underway, primarily to replenish funds for the development of multiple pipelines in Phase I clinical trials. Additionally, it aims to provide financial support for the subsequent development of more IND-enabling stage projects while advancing the early-stage research of extracellular liver delivery platform technology.
Hygieia, based on its siRNA delivery technology platform, focuses on disease areas with urgent clinical needs or no available treatments. Its pipeline covers hepatitis B, NASH/MASH, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, complement-mediated related diseases, and neurological disorders. Among them, the drug for treating chronic hepatitis B virus infection licensed to Fosun Pharma's subsidiary Xingyao Kunte is a domestically produced siRNA hepatitis B new drug that has received approval from both the NMPA and FDA to enter clinical trials. Developed using the MVIP delivery technology platform, results from all stages of Phase I clinical trials have shown that this pipeline exhibits good safety, tolerability, and potential.
CGeneTech is a biotechnology company at the commercialization stage. Relying on an integrated drug research and development technology platform and diversified commercial vision, the company has built a rich innovative drug pipeline covering hypoglycemic, anti-cancer, and autoimmune fields. On September 3, CGeneTech announced the first closing of its over 100-million-yuan Series C financing round.
CGeneTech's current round of investment is from Tongren Boda, and the funds raised will be used for the commercial production and sales of the company’s upcoming Class 1 innovative drug product, Sengliptin (formerly known as Shengliptin), as well as the clinical development of subsequent innovative product pipelines.
It is reported that currently, CGeneTech's independently developed new-generation highly selective DPP-4 inhibitor, Sengliptin, is about to be approved for marketing.
Industry insiders said that the successful development of Sengletinib has validated the innovation and feasibility of CGeneTech's R&D platform. Based on this platform, the company has also developed several anti-tumor drugs that have entered the clinical stage. Among them, the CXCR4 antagonist CGT-1881 is used for hematopoietic stem cell mobilization; the FGFR/VEGFR dual-target inhibitor CGT-6321 is expected to become a potential drug in the field of solid tumor treatment. Two of these products have received clinical trial approval from the U.S. FDA, and this round of financing will also accelerate the company's pace of innovative international expansion.
In addition to the two domestic pharmaceutical companies mentioned above, in the international market, OrsoBio announced the completion of a $67 million oversubscribed Series B financing round. The funds raised will be used to accelerate the development of the company's portfolio of mitochondrial protonophore products for the treatment of obesity and related metabolic diseases. eGenesis announced the completion of a $191 million Series D financing round to advance its lead candidate EGEN-2784 into the first human kidney transplant clinical trial, as well as to push forward other pipeline projects and expand production.
