In September 2024, Novo Nordisk presented the first human trial data of oral Amycretin at the Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD).

After 12 weeks of treatment, the weight loss was 10.4% in the Amycretin 50mg dose group, 13.1% in the 50mg*2 dose group, and 1.1% in the placebo group. After placebo correction, the weight loss was 9.3% in the Amycretin 50mg dose group and 12.0% in the 50mg*2 dose group after 12 weeks of treatment.

Amycretin is a GLP-1/amylin dual-target agonist, taken orally once daily.

Summary
Novo Nordisk has led the exploration of GLP-1 drugs for weight loss indications. Semaglutide is currently the best-selling GLP-1 drug, and several iterative products have been developed subsequently, including Semaglutide + Cagrilintide, CB1R agonist, a once-weekly GLP-1/GIP dual-target agonist, and Amycretin. Roche’s small molecule GLP-1 achieved a 13% weight loss after 12 weeks of treatment, which is currently the best efficacy for oral hypoglycemic drugs. Novo Nordisk's oral Amycretin shows equivalent efficacy (non-head-to-head).
